A “Shock Art Spectacle” blending improvised music, performance, and light: Joe Hertenstein’s XCountry Bungalow combines high-intensity electroacoustic improvisation with the unsettling yet fascinating theatricality of New York performance artist Daisy Payero.
The internationally diverse ensemble creates a sonic cosmos without beginning or end—blending electronic textures, heavy drums, bass, vocals, and modular synthesizers. At the center is Payero’s physically expressive performance inside an internally illuminated “bungalow,” accompanied by analog, improvised lighting.
Following its acclaimed world premiere at the Moers Festival in 2024, XCountry Bungalow is rarely seen live. For the Berlin performance, the ensemble will be joined by Austrian trumpeter and electronic musician Franz Hautzinger as a special guest.
