With his distinctive blend of reggae, hip-hop, and modern Caribbean
influences, Protoje is one of the most influential and progressive voices in
modern roots reggae worldwide. In August, the Jamaican superstar is coming to Berlin for a one-off
concert in Germany.
Protoje—born in 1981 in Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica, and raised in Kingston—is a singer,
songwriter, producer, and visionary bandleader all in one. As the son of the legendary
Jamaican singer Lorna Bennett, musical talent was in his blood from the start.
But instead of resting on his laurels, he has long since created his own genre-spanning
sound and is regarded worldwide as a leader and pioneer of the modern “reggae
revival” movement.
Protoje achieved his international breakthrough following early successes like the single “Arguments”
with the albums “Ancient Future” (2015) and the Grammy-nominated masterpiece “A Matter Of
Time” (2018). His landmark album “In Search Of Lost Time” (2020) featured the global hit
“Same So,” which generated well over 50 million streams across all platforms. In 2022, he
followed up with “Third Time’s The Charm” and promptly secured his next Grammy nomination
in the “Best Reggae Album” category.
With his latest studio album “The Art Of
Acceptance,” he impressively solidifies his status as one of the most important reggae
artists of his generation.
Alongside his solo successes, Protoje has established himself as a sought-after collaborator for artists
such as Chronixx, Koffee, and Popcaan. His sound even made its way onto the famous summer playlist of former
U.S. President Barack Obama.
For this exclusive Berlin concert, Protoje is bringing his top-notch band, The Indiggnation.
Here, the rebellious attitude of hip-hop blends seamlessly with classic roots riddims
and virtuoso, improvised band passages.
