overpass is a four-piece band from Birmingham who have already reached a wider audience in the UK with their sound between indie and alternative, supporting Inhaler and Two Door Cinema Club. Their debut EP "From the Night" has already made it into the charts and official Spotify playlists in their home country, while media such as NME, Dork and Clash as well as BBC Radio 1 host Jack Saunders have also highlighted the band. Performances at renowned showcase festivals such as the ESNS Festival, Reeperbahn Festival and The Great Escape were followed by international support shows for Wunderhorse. Last year, overpass went on their first headline tour of the UK, which culminated in a sold-out show at the O2 Institute Birmingham in front of 1,500 people. The debut album "Elsewhere, Always" will be released on June 5, 2026, with which the band will go on tour in Europe in early fall. Even before the shows in the UK and Ireland, which have already been upgraded several times and are still almost sold out, overpass will be stopping off in Cologne, Berlin and Hamburg as part of the Elsewhere, Always album tour.
The UK - and Birmingham in particular - has always been a great place to launch a music career. However, overpass only follow in the musical footsteps of artists such as The Streets, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest or Duran Duran to a limited extent. Instead, Max Newbold (guitar & vocals), Elliot Rawlings (guitar), Indie Armstrong (bass) and Jake Bishop (drums) focus on a sound between modern alternative rock and indie, which they presented for the first time in 2020 with their debut single "One Night Lover". From 2021 to 2023, overpass attracted attention with further singles such as "3AM" and "Right Time" and established their first fan favorites. 2024 saw the release of the EP "From the Night", which was also released as an "unplugged" version. In February 2025, the band returned with their second release "Dependent" and played shows outside the UK for the first time that year. With the song "Union Station", overpass finally released the first single from their upcoming debut album in early 2026, which they then teased further with "Sandman" and "Heaven". "Elsewhere, Always" was born out of an "uncertainty in a maelstrom of existential confusion of twenty-somethings", as a press release reveals. The result is ten tracks that lead even deeper into the musical and emotional world of overpass than ever before.
