Book premiere.
Moderation: Thorsten Ahrend
The new book by Thomas Brussig („Heroes like us“, „At the shorter end of the Sonnenallee“, „ There’s no Russian film“). With "Mats Hummels on Parship" Thomas Brussig continues his soccer monologue "Life to Men" and updates it.

"A coach must be able to roar. I, by the way, don't roar. It looks like roaring, but in reality it's thinking, and very passionate thinking at that."

Affected by self-doubt and introverted, Brussig's coach isn't exactly when he rants about the parallels between theater and soccer, immediately invoking Goethe and Shakespeare and philosophizing about the differences between soccer and table tennis. In any case, he doesn't miss a single topic, whether it's Corona vaccinations, women's soccer, language bans or the World Cup being awarded to Qatar. He even muses on whether one would like to have a Boateng as a neighbor and puts the act of saving the ball off the line in the match against Ukraine in 2016 in current references.

With "Mats Hummels on Parship," Thomas Brussig continues his soccer monologue "Leben bis Männer" and updates it. In a sense, the turnaround loser from the Börde has become a rage citizen. With "Schiedsrichter fertig" (Referee Finished), Brussig has dedicated to a referee a litany that is as true as it is contradiction demanding and highly comical in Bernhardsche tone. This book brings together all three of the authors soccer monologues.

Thomas Brussig, born in Berlin in 1964, had his breakthrough with "Helden wie wir" in 1995. This was followed, among others, by "Am kürzeren Ende der Sonnenallee" (1999), "Wie es leuchtet" (2004) and "Das gibt’s in keinem Russenfilm" (2015). in 2020, his novel „The Transformed“ was published. His works have been translated into more than 30 languages.

„Mats Hummels on Parship“, 160 pages, will be published by Wallstein Verlag
in January 2023
An event by Literatur LIVE in cooperation with Wallstein Verlag, Thalia Buchhandlung and Maschinenhaus der Kulturbrauerei
