BODEGA is a five-piece art-rock band from New York City that emerged in 2016 from the remnants of the Trickster collective Bodega Bay (2013–2016). Band leaders and songwriters Ben Hozie and Nikki Belfiglio are also multidisciplinary artists: Ben is a filmmaker (PVT Chat with Julia Fox and Peter Vack), and Nikki is a visual artist who designs all the artwork for the band’s releases.
For their fifth album, All Inside Aquarium, released on October 9, 2025, on Chrysalis Records, they created an aquarium filled with handmade miniature objects.
Bodega are known for their unpredictable live performances—they never play the same setlist twice—and the band draws on philosophical and literary lyrics that explore the hidden influences behind everyday thoughts and behaviors.
Bodega’s mantra is “The best criticism is self-criticism,” which is why their songs are often characterized by sharp wit, with which they poke fun at their own philosophical and political hypocrisies and missteps. Their new, fifth album, “All Inside Aquarium,” draws on the sounds of the late ’80s and early ’90s and is heavily inspired by the Stone Roses and Jane’s Addiction.
