The Mary Wallopers to Tour Germany in February 2027 with a New Album
Traditional Irish folk, political activism, and a healthy dose of anarchy: In recent years, The Mary Wallopers have evolved from an insider’s pick out of Dundalk into one of the most exciting Irish live bands of today. Instead of reverently preserving the musical traditions of their homeland, they bring them into the here and now with humor, anger, and unbridled energy.
At the center of it all is their third album, “Paddywhackery,” which will be released on September 18 via BC Records. Following their self-titled debut and “Irish Rock ’n’ Roll” (2023)—on which the band began writing more of their own songs—The Mary Wallopers are consistently continuing down this path. The album was recorded in just two intense weeks at Kempston Street Studios in Liverpool, produced by James Skelly of The Coral.
Even the lead singles demonstrate just how broad their musical and thematic range has become. “Crowns Of England” looks at modern-day England and its colonial legacy from an Irish outsider’s perspective, while the stripped-down “Landlord’s Demise” uses vocals, bodhrán, and whistle to sing of the downfall of the Irish landlord class. “Kit Kat Club,” on the other hand, charges forward with an almost rockabilly-style guitar riff, before “The Big Mixer” pays tribute to all those who keep the social machine running day in and day out. In this way, “Paddywhackery” blends traditional Irish music even more effortlessly with original songs, political observations, working-class stories, and that playful wit with which the band nips any suspicion of folk nostalgia in the bud.
The Mary Wallopers really come into their own on stage. In the summer of 2026, major festivals like All Together Now and Electric Picnic were on the schedule; in the fall, numerous UK shows followed, culminating in a performance at London’s O2 Academy Brixton as well as arena concerts in Dublin and Glasgow, before the tour continues to North America and Europe in 2027.
Their concerts thrive just as much on the audience singing along as they do on chaos, humor, and political stance. In February 2027, this special mix will finally be on display again in Germany when The Mary Wallopers come to Hamburg, Berlin, and Munich for three concerts.
