Organizer: Presented by WABE
For the 30th time, the Berlin Blues kicks off the new year with a time-honored tradition: On Saturday, January 9, 2027, the Jonathan Blues Band invites you to the traditional New Year’s Blues. Due to renovation work at the WABE, this anniversary event will take place at the Kesselhaus in the Kulturbrauerei.
As in every year, the host is Peter Pabst, a veteran of the East Berlin blues scene. Together with his Jonathan Blues Band—Hagen Dyballa on bass and Matthias Fuhrmann on drums—he’ll once again bring together numerous musical companions and guests for the evening.
The guests for 2027 include:
Mike Kilian (vocals, Rockhaus)
Steffi Breiting (vocals)
André Drechsler (guitar, Jessica)
Bernd Kleinow (harmonica)
BluesRudi (guitar, vocals)
Gerhard “Hugo” Laartz (keyboards, Modern Soul Band)
With his distinctive voice, Rockhaus singer Mike Kilian has been one of the defining vocalists of the East German rock scene for decades. Also joining the lineup is Thuringia-born blues singer Steffi Breiting. André Drechsler, guitarist for the band Jessica, joins forces with blues harp player Bernd Kleinow and BluesRudi. On keyboards is Gerhard “Hugo” Laartz, whose Modern Soul Band helped shape a chapter of East German rock and soul history.
As tradition dictates, a special concert program has been put together for the 30th edition. The Jonathan Blues Band and their guests promise an evening blending blues, rock, and East German music history—and about three hours of blues power on the stage of the Kesselhaus.
