AUSTRA is coming to Germany live in 2025 with her new album "Chin Up Buttercup"! With fresh songs between heartbreak, hope and hypnotic synthpop, the Canadian artist will be playing exclusive shows in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich and Cologne in March.
Austra, the project of Canadian singer, composer and producer Katie Stelmanis, is back with a new album and a new sound. On "Chin Up Buttercup" (release date: November 14, Domino), Stelmanis combines glittering electro-pop with emotional depth and a good dose of catharsis. Inspired by the Eurodance spirit of the late 90s, such as Madonna's "Ray of Light", the result is a mix of club-ready beats, spherical synths and bittersweet lyrics.
Stelmanis, a classically trained musician and passionate opera lover, has released four albums over the years and won a Canadian Screen Award. She has always sung about great tragedies - until she experienced one herself. At the beginning of 2020, her long-term relationship ended abruptly. "I was completely blindsided ... the person I loved woke up one day, said she wasn't happy, and I practically never saw her again," says Stelmanis. This experience turned her into the driving creative force behind "Chin Up Buttercup".
After years of Austra pushing the boundaries between pop, art and politics with albums like "Feel It Break" and "Future Politics", "Chin Up Buttercup" sounds like a personal and musical liberation. Stelmanis transforms pain into energy and melancholy into pure euphoria - a soundtrack for anyone who wants to lose themselves completely in order to find themselves anew.
In March 2025, Austra is finally coming back to Germany to perform her new songs live on stage. If you like powerful vocals, shimmering synths and honest emotions, you shouldn't miss these concerts.
