After the sold-out concert in the fall of 2024 in Berlin's Maschinenhaus, Divanhana will return to present their Sevdah interpretations in the larger Kesselhaus on November 26, 2025.
Divanhana from Sarajevo present traditional Balkan music in a new guise: urban styles unite with the rich sounds of the Sevdah. With great dedication, the musicians transport this musical heritage between painful melancholy and heartfelt joy - in powerful, contemporary arrangements. Their melodies merge into an energetic blend of jazz, folk, modern classical and pop, without ever losing their emotional depth.
Sevdah (also Sevdalinka) is a traditional music style from Bosnia and Herzegovina, characterized by emotional depth, poetic lyrics and an often melancholic sound. It is one of the most important forms of musical expression in the Balkans - and is considered cultural heritage there.
The band's sixth studio album, Zavrzlama, released in 2022, combines Sephardic, Balkan and Turkish roots with jazz-pop lightness.
Singer Selma Doce has also been part of the line-up since 2022 and will of course also be performing live at the Kesselhaus. In recent years, the band has also released a "Quarantine EP" and filmed a making-of documentary of the recordings in the studio in Ljubljana.
