Joel Sarakula is an Australian singer-songwriter dedicated to soulful West Coast pop, observing the contemporary world through his vintage, '70s-tinted glasses. Influenced by soft rock, funk and disco, he offers sunny uptempo jams for darker times.

Originally from Sydney, Australia, he has spent the last decade living in London and now the Canary Islands. „I have spent my life moving to smaller and smaller islands,“ Sarakula jokes. He has developed and lived his soulful style over his last two albums „Love Club“ and „Companionship“, but his decision to move to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in late 2020 has brought him full circle. Whereas his music previously had a sunny, summery and occasionally tropical feel, he now literally lives in the sunny tropics. Nevertheless, Joel Sarakula was and is a globetrotter, always in search of inspiration, was once the victim of a carjacking in the Caribbean and played not only on big stages, but also in the most remote fishing villages in Norway or dubious basement bars throughout Europe and the U.S.

Meanwhile, Joel Sarakula has become a fixture in the festival and club scene, already performing at a variety of jazz & soul festivals, as well as SXSW, Primavera, The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City, Blue Balls (Lucerne), Blackisback (Madrid), V-ROX (Russia) or the Reeperbahn Festival. And no matter where he shows up, his live shows always leave the audience dancing and beaming with enthusiasm. He can call on musicians from different regions, depending on where he is playing. It's all in the tradition of the traveling U.S. soul and blues artists of the '60s and '70s.

His previous albums „Companionship“ (2020), „Love Club“ (2018), „The Imposter“ (2015) and „The Golden Age“ (2013) have earned him an imposing array of Europe-wide radio appearances to date, from BBC to Deutschlandfunk Kultur, and have been lauded in Rolling Stone, Stern, The New York Times, The Independent, El Pais and many more. The new album will be released on January 20, 2023 on Légère Recordings.
